The word BHA-RA-TA-NATYAM comes from BHA - Bhava = Expression,
RA - Raga = Music, TA - Tala = Rhythm and NATYAM = Dance.
It is the most popular Indian classical dance in Sri Lanka and South India, and the most ancient of all the classical dance forms. Today, it is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by many dancers all over the world. The dancer (Female or male) uses the space as his/her own holy temple and brings the audience into his/her magical circle as he/she performs and acts out stories, tales and stories with emotional content. Linear geometrical patterns, a perfect balance of the body, eloquent of expression, and accuracy of footwork to intricate mathematical rhythms are the hallmarks of this dance.
